Engine Mechanical problem
2005 Honda Civic 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive 35000 miles

My car has shut off on several ocassions while driving. it happens only when my foot is not on the accelerator pedal. I went to get it checked and was told that my air flow sensor went bad. Is it possible for the sensor to cause that problem? What will be the consequence if i operate the vehicle without the sensor?
