Hi - had a full service done last fri (plugs, oil & oil filter replaced etc) then took it for a drive of about 100 miles on the Sunday & next morning a major oil leak on driveway, strange engine noise & oil light lit up on dash.

Oil leak apparently from cam shaft seal (it was pouring out when started & on the hoist) but not related in any way to the service according to the repairer?

Repairer then replaced cam shaft seal & timing belt (due to oil contact) - my question is could the mechanic have caused this problem in some way? The car has had no problems since I bought it 9 months ago.

appreciate your help

Hi cne62,

The camshaft oil seal is not easily accessible and it is just coincidence that it occurred.

Seals would harden over time and in some cases the external ciecumference of the seal hardens and the seal dislodges itself from its seat, I believe that is the case, allowing oil to be pushed out with the engine running.
