THE TRANSMISSION ON MY 2002 HONDA CIVIC WAS REPLACED ABOUT 10 DAYS AGO BY A NEW TRANSMISSION. SINCE THE FIRST DAY I FELT A SMALL BUMP WHEN I WOULD SHIFT FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE FROM A COMPLETE STANDSTILL. I MENTIONED IT TO THE MECHANIC WHO REPLACED IT. THEY SAID IT WOULD SLOWLY GO AWAY BUT IT DOES NOT SEEM TO BE GOING AWAY. IT HAPPENS ONLY THE FIRST TIME THE CAR IS STARTED AND THEN GOES AWAY. WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST THAT I SHOULD DO?

Hi ALANAP,

Was this problem there before the trans change?

If you shift from R to D, then back to R then D again, does the problem reoccur?

If it does, then it might be a engine mounting or excessive clearance in the driveshaft inboard joint.

Is there any time lag for the jolt when D is engaged?

Was the engine warmed up when you start driving? Maybe the RPM was too high?
