My 2002 Honda Civic recently died while I was driving. I had it towed to repair shop and they diagnosted it as having a bad crankshaft sensor. They replaced it and told me car started right up. My question is I had timing belt replaced about 3,000 miles ago and soon after My car died and repair shop told me that belt tensioner failed. Motor was damaged and two valves had to be replaced. Needless to say I was pretty upset with repair shop but they covered most of cost to fix car. Now this crankshaft sensor failure. How common is this to happen? They told me it was a separate problem and not related to motor work they had done. I have my doubts. Any advice? Please help!

Hi CHIC58,

The crankshaft sensor is an electrical component and can fail without warning. Replacement of timing belt involves removal of the sensor but should not be directly related to the failure.
