Air Conditioning problem
2002 Honda Civic 4 cyl Automatic 277000 miles

My AC stopped blowing cold air about 3 weeks ago for about 1 hour then it worked again until last night. I also hear a loud squealing noise from the left front of my car...i was told it sounds as if the compressor is going bad. Can i keep driving the car or should i get it fixed? Also i konw it is very expensive to replace the compressor..can i drive it without the compressor working? Or will that cause damage to other parts? I can not afford to replace the compressor right now.

Hi em765,

Thank you for the donation.

The problem could be a bad or loose compressor/alternator belt.

You can try adjusting the belt to see if the squealing goes away and the AC might start working again.

If the belt is bad, replace it.

It is not advisable to keep driving with a bad or loose belt as it can overheat and break and when that happens, you will be stranded.
