2001 Honda Civic 60,000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have a 2001 honda civic ex. In recent months I have discovered a problem which has worsened with time. The first time it was seen, the headlights temporarily turned off for a few seconds. More recently I did a long road trip in which for the first half of the trip they worked fine, then suddenly they started to cut out.

I would switch to my hi-beams and after a while check back to see if my regulars were working again, at first they were. But after a few more times of them cutting out randomly they eventually were out for good. Although they seemingly cut in and off randomly without my touching anything, I have noticed that at least once they stopped working right when turned my blinker on. I have checked the fuses for the headlights, although the fact that its a sporatic thing leads me to believe its a circuit problem. But I don't even know where to start looking given the vast amount of possible problem areas.. anyone have any ideas?

If it were only one headlight i'd be better able to focus in, but since its both of them, its tougher. Also I should note that at least once, maybe twice, I can't remember, but on my long road trip when i was relying on my hi-beams, those too went out for a few seconds. it was also temporary and the Hi-beams cutting out have proven to be much more rare than the regular beams, yet it still might be worth mentioning. Given that information, does anyone have any ideas as to where I could start looking for a problem? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi sean2a,

From your description, I would recommend checking the switch assy, seems it is failing due to bad contacts.
