Heater problem
2001 Honda Civic Automatic 190000 miles

Great website!

Hello, my car heater fan does not seem to be working when i try to turn on the heat. I feel heat over the vent, but it doesn't seem to be blowing...

Do you know what is wrong? What would happen if i choose not to repair it, will it cause further damage to the car? How much would it cost to generally fix this?

I'm trying to cut cost as much as possible...any suggestions is much appreciated.

thanks!

No further damage can be caused.

You may have a faulty heater blower motor or a fault in the circuit somewhere.

A quick check is to check your fuses and relays and make sure they are functioning properly. If not, I would look to see if the heater blower is getting power and ground.

Thanks for the feedback. I checked the fuse and it was fine. I think it could be the fan motor. I'm planning to bring it in to the dealership today as it gets too cold driving in Toronto without the heater.

The dealership said that the problem is a faulty motor resistor; they want to charge $130 for the part and another $100 for labour - this is highway robbery!! Do you know if i can get the part at a local Canadian Tire store and replace this myself? Any instructions would be much appreciated. thanks.

I'm from Toronto as well!

Go to NAPA and purcahse the blower resistor.

Your resistor should be behind the glovebox. It is a very easy install. Remove the 2 or 3 screws/bolts that hold it in and unclip the harness connector. Then install in reverse order.
