It would involve some definite opening of a number of areas. What happened? Did the cable break? Is the shielding still okay? I might consider leaving the shielding and sliding in a new piece of cable. Your big issue will be how to anchor at each end but that should be doable. Ripping out the old one is easy except for the carpet, the seat or anything that might have to be removed to gain access.
