2000 Honda Civic 4 cyl Automatic 130000 miles

Hi, someone broke into my gas tank and syphoned out the gas. Now the tank always reads full. Can the sending unit be corrected or will I have to buy a new one? Is it a difficult process with this model? I know my insurance would probably cover it but would it be cheaper to do it myself? Thanks in advance

Always cheaper to do it yourself, the sending unit is not repairable unless they just knocked an electrical connector loose. Check that first, otherwise replacement is necessary. You can remove rear seat and underneath is access cover to the fuel pump/sending unit.
