Noises problem
2000 Honda Civic 4 cyl Automatic 205000 miles

Over the past month, my car has been making an increasingly loud noise from the engine area, and is pretty loud now. It's a metallic grinding/turning sound that only occurs at low speeds or a complete stop. The nosie will stop once the car picks up speed, and is affected/muffled by turning on the air conditioner. Every now and then, the sound will go away inexplicably.

The sound will also continue for a second after the engine is cut off, and will just before the engine cranks up. I've looked and can't find the part it is coming from.

Outside of this noise, the car runs fine, and has no noticeable performance problems. Any help or info on what to check would be greatly appreciated!
