2000 Honda Civic Freon charge didn't work

Last week, I took my 2000 Honda Civic EX in for an oil change. While it was there, I asked the mechanic (a family friend) to check the a/c because it was not blowing cold air. He said it needed a Freon charge and charged it on the spot for $50 (added to the cost of my oil change).

When the car was returned to me, the a/c worked again! It blew cold air...but this only lasted for about two days. After that, it was back to blowing hot air. I checked all of the vents in the car; they are all blowing at full volume except the rightmost vent in the middle of the dash. This one is blowing at a comparatively low volume. I also noticed that when I turn the a/c on, I hear a noise that slightly resembles a running faucet.

I am not a car expert at all. I hope my question doesn't sound stupid, but I was wondering if you can guestimate what the problem might be. I'm trying to figure out if this repair will cost me $50 or $500 dollars. All I know is, I feel like I flushed $50 down the toilet to have the freon charged.

Thanks for your help!

You have an a/c leak somewhere in the system. That is why it worked for a bit then quit working.

You must have the system leak-tested.
