My engine light came on and I plan to take my vehicle to a repair shop soon, but I would like to have an idea of how serious the problem is.
When the car is idling, usually when stopped at a red light, it seems to have trouble accelerating. The car shudders a bit while moving forward before it changes gears and is able to drive normally. I have found that taking my foot off the gas when this happens and then slowly applying the gas again will help the car to get through it and drive normally.
I have also found this occurred when getting on the highway on ramp, accelerating from normal city street speed to highway speed.
I am far from being a car expert, but I believe this is going to be a transmission problem since it seems to only appear when accelerating. I haven't had any recent work done on the car except an oil change a few weeks ago.
Thanks for any help!
- Steve.
