1999 Honda Civic Automatic 150000 miles

the hood makes a weird noise on a 1999 civic im looking to buy but i would like to know what the rattle is. it smokes a little bit and the owner thinks it has to do with a head gasket?i just want to get a good price on it if i have to buy new parts and everything.

If the engine is smoking the quickest way to help pinpoint where it's coming from is with a cylinder leak-down test. Without doing this test, you're just guessing as to if its a headgasket or piston ring issue.
