The srs light is on what does this mean and does it need to go to a shop

The SRS is related the the Air bags. Not something I would go after from a d-i-y aspect. Codes need to be read and then it can be troubleshooted. Take it ino a shop.

It should come on for about 5 or 6 seconds when you start the car, but after that, it should go out and NEVER come back on again.
If it's staying on, yeah, you'll probably want to get that repaired. Not sure on the cost.
