Heater problem
1998 Honda Civic Two Wheel Drive Automatic 142000 miles

My car started overheating whenever I went on a long trip.I was told to change my radiator which I did. On another longer journey the needle started to creep up and I took it in again. Told to chnage the switch just below the alternator as well as the fan switch. On the same day it heated for the forst time on a short trip. It was tested and I was told they have to do the head gasket.(I refused) I took the car home and it was fine and did not overheat at all. Took it to another agent who stated that the head was fine(he did a test by inserting a beaker like instrument with a blue liquid into the radiator) but I would need to change the water-pump, but he was not sure as he said the car would have been overheating all the time. What should I do, I drive the car everyday and its fine but have to make a longer trip soon?

I've never seen a water pump cause an over-heat on a honda. It's most likely a failed head gasket. I've seen many honda's with your exact symptoms, and it turned out to be the headgasket.
