I recently got a tune-up and now just a few weeks later my engine has started overheating. Isn't filling the engine coolant standard in a tune up? Also, what can I do right now to get home without overheating again? Should I put water in? Lastly, how long does it take before blowing a gasket or cracking the engine block?

Hi rod0001,

Checking the coolant is standard for a maintenance service but is the cooling system leaking?

Yes water is better than mixing unknown coolants or anti freeze.

Blowing a gasket takes maybe 10 mins of excessive overheating and cracking a block is not easy unless you add water immediately when the engine stalls. It would be easier to crack the head.
