Recently purchased '98 honda civic. Ran ok @ test drive but did notice a slight hesitation when running 75-80 mph (just a couple little hesitations). Check engine light not on but did verify that it would flash on when starting engine (knew the light wasn't burned out). Oil, transmission, and coolant levels OK.
Just about home from work (1/4 mile to go) and engine began missing around 60 mph and check engine light began flashing. Was able to get it home and checked oil level & ok. Engine will start, but check engine light continues to flash. Doesn't sound rough in idle, but I did not test it further.

Also speedometer, and thus odometer is intermittently working. Sets around 20mph when its not working.

A flashing engine light indicates a engine mis-fire.

What you will most likely find is that you just need a tune-up.
