I have a 98 Civic with 145000 miles. It runs very well, but recently the check engine light has started coming on when in the process of stopping, especially on harder stops. There has been no change in performance that I can detect. I was told last week that I need new struts, but the mechanic did not think the two issues could be related. Based on my garage floor, I have no fluid leaks. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi EMyh,

The struts and the CEL are not related. Get a scan done to find if there are any freeze frame data recorded in the ECM. If none found, it is possible there are some wire connections loose somewhere or the ECM is having internal problem.
