I change my oil around 3000-3500 miles usually and currently was around the 3500 mile mark. So my engine started making popping sounds the other day when I was heading to the store about half way there(about half a mile from home) so I got to the store parked. Engine temp was at normal, sound came from right behind the engine area. I got my stuff went home parked and again began to inspect the vehicle. Engine temp still norm, coolant was normal, oil normal. Shortly after inspecting I heard dripping I looked down and my car was dumping coolant. I looked down the driveway and there was no trail at all on the driveway, so I only assume that means it just started up after I parked. I poured water into my radiator later and watched it pour out between the timing belt and the engine block have come to believe it is the water pump. But I have not been able to figure out if that has something to do with the popping sound that preceded the leak, or are they separate issues that happened at the same time.

Coolant leaking does not make a popping sound. However, a leaking water pump is a very urgent matter, I'd replace it asap, then worry about this popping sound after the timing belt and pump are replaced.
