I just got done replacing both cv axle. Now when I turn I get a knocking sound. How far off the transmission should the shaft be? I have it within a 1/4 of a inch. Does it need to be touching it? On my factory axle there was a rubber wheel around the drivers side axle. The replacement axle did not come with this. What does that rubber wheel do and could that be the cause of my problem not having it. Thanks!

Hi there,

The shafts should be locked in with a "C" clip on the end of the inner shaft, if you can still slide the inner shaft in and out, it is not locked home. Also make sure the transmission oil is full as well.
