1996 Honda Civic Car wont heat up

I have a 96 honda civic and the car doesnt seem to be heating up, I can drive the car 35 to 40 miles and the gage on the dash still doesnt move. Sometimes I notice it gets warm but after a couple minutes the heater gage goes back down again. I heard it can be my thermostate. Any ideas why my car wont warm up?

Sounds like it replace it and see what happens also check your coolant level.
