Electrical problem
1995 Honda Civic 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual n/a miles

It all began prior to a long trip to my home town. My buddy needed a jump because his battery was dead, so I brought my car over and tried to give him a jump. Needless to say my 1.5 couldn't start up his 3.0 so I gave up and brought my truck over. After that I drove about 30 to 40 miles. I was at a stop light and everything was going ok idling fine. Then I took off when it turned green. I made it about 10 feet and the engine stalled out. I tried starting it back up and it would turn over fine but it wouldn't fire up. I pushed it to the side of the road and walked away. I got something to eat came back and it started just fine. I drove another 400 miles and it did it again. It stallled out. I checked under the hood and there was a blown fuze. I replaced it and then I drove it the rest of the way home. Another 300 miles or so. Then I drove it back 700 miles. No problems. Then one weekend I drove it another 40 miles or so to san diego. I stopped at a gas station. I started it back up, idled fine. Then I took off, went about 10 feet and it stalled. Now the second time it did that I was going about 70mph when it died. Every time it happens I just let it sit for an hour or so and then it starts right back up just fine. If I try starting it sooner than that it just turns over and won't fire up. When this happens there is no spark coming from the distributor. Also the SRS light is always on. (Wasn't on until this all started happening) Any help or advice would be great. Thank you.

Hi danielburns,

The symptoms described a failing ignition coilr or Ignition control Module, both of which are components of the distributor. However it could be the ECM, engine grounds or ignition switch that are causing the problem.

When engine could not start and ignition sparks are not available, test for power supply to the distributor Black/Yellow at ignition ON and while cranking. You should have battery voltage.

Does the Check Engine Lamp goes off after 2 seconds at ignition switch ON when the engine could start? If no, check the engine grounds at the thermostat housing, remove, clean and retighten to test. If it still does not help, the ECM could be failing.
