after driving a few hundren miles the oil is mostly out fo the car and no real leaks are present, there is some white smoke out of it in the morning (tail pipe); the previous owner paid 533.33 for labor to R&R cylinder head and adjust valves

so what can I do, we paid 3200 for it, and need it to last another two years until our son gets out of high school

Personally, I would take the car and have a leak down test performed on it. This test will show whether it is a ring problem, head, etc. I suspect that the oil is being burned in a slow methodical fashion. More at a higher rpm, etc. I really thing you are looking for an overhaul or engine replacement.
