i have a honda civic dx. i noticed a smell about a week ago. i could not locate its source. the battery overheated today, and while driving the warning lights came on and the engine cut out. the battery did not explode, but steam came out the ports and made a mess in the engine compartment. now the engine will turn over, but will not fire. i have noticed that a ground from engine compartment frame to engine block has come disconnected on the engine side. any ideas?

Hi there,

replace the battery and wash the affected area with a warm water and bi-carb soda solution, replace the battery earth and have the alternator checked for over charging.

thank you for your reply.
where might the short in the system be?
could the engine block ground disconnect have caused the excess voltage to battery?
why wont my car start now?
thanks again,

Hi there,

Check foe a fuse or fusible link that may have blown when the battery was overcharging.
