I have a transmission that seems to be internally cloged. Can it be flushed? How many Quarts does the manufacturer call for ? Is it 4 or 5? It will drive in reverse the go in 1st 2nd 3rd and then just stops working... And Ideas? Could it also be a problem with the Sylanoid pack?

Hi nebslostone,

Fluid change is 2.8 quart.
After overhaul it is 6.2 quarts.

You can get reverse but not 4th gear?
If both reverse and 4th speed fails, then the 4th clutch is faulty.
They both share the same clutch and if only the 4th speed is affected, the possibilities are

1. a stuck CPC( clutch pressure control) valve
2. low ATF level
3. clogged cooler or hoses.

If the CPC is stuck, flushing would not help.

You need to have the trans rebuilt.

This model is not ECU controlled so there is no
gear shift control solenoid.

If all the gears don't work after driving and if you switch off the engine and restart, then it works, the strainer is clogged. You need to strip the trans bare to get at the strainer.
