I have a 1993 manual civic ex that is stuttering at low rpms(under 3000rpm). The engine and rpm runs fine when it is cold(for about 10mins). After that, the engine stutters and bogs under 3000rpm.
When the engine is hot, the car doesn't idle well and will shut off. I have to give a little gas(to 1000rpm) to keep the engine on.
The check light is not on.
Please Help.

Hi tompbz,
If the engine is unable to idle at below 1000 rpm, there should be some problem with the engine ignition system and possible causes are :
1. Valve clearance too tight.
2. Misfiring cylinder, either caused by spark plugs or injectors.
3. Bad compression in 1 or more cyinders.
4. Faulty ignition coil, spark plug wires or distributor cap

If it's any of the 4 above, will the engine still run smooth and fine when the engine is still cold?

When engine is cold, the Fast Idle is operating and engine would be running at a higher rpm. The erratic idling and poor performance would be covered by the higher rpm.
