1992 Honda Civic My speedometer is broken

There is no physical damage that can be seen. My son has been driving it and he has taken off to the military. I dont know what is wrong with it, it is just not working, everything else is fine. What are all the possibilities for it not working, chips, which wires connect to it, anything and everything

Inspect the speedometer drive gear on the transaxle if okay check the speedo head
