my son went over a bump in the snow 2 weeks ago, something hit the undercarriage, and the car has been making a load "hole in the muffler" noisse and blue smoke has been coming out under the middle drivers' side undercarriage since then. Any idea what could be wrong? Thanks for any suggestions.

Sounds like you have engine damage. If there is blue smoke coming out of the tailpipe, that is burnt oil. The knocking may be an engine bearing, bent rod, etc.
