My car has not had regular servicing. I don't drive it very often, or very far. I put less than 25 miles a month on it, maybe 10-15 miles of that usual 5 mile round trip to Costco on the freeway. The rest of the mileage is city driving, stop and go stuff. Just recently it started makiong a squealing noise when I back out of the driveway, and during my drive it can be faintly heard over the hot-rod sound my engine has been producing. I am retired, but do not want to lose this car, and I hope it will last as long as it gets some needed work done.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. I might be able to get the work done by a friend of a friend. I hate to drive it in its present condition, and it is embarrassing.

Hi callmegram,

Get the brake pads checked. Symptoms indicates the brake wear indicator is brushing against the rotors.
