1988 honda civic wagon

Had my mechanic do a tune up and they adjusted the valves as part of the tune up. Ran really good and quiet.

Two weeks after tune up I had them replace the timing belt. Drove home, ran great, really quiet.

The next day I drove about 50 highway miles and when I got home the valves were knocking, not bad but we went from silent to knocking in one day after timing belt was replaced.

Took car back they checked valve adjust, readjusted a few valves, still knocks, they told me its normal on older honda engines...

How did I go from quiet no knocking to valve knock in one day?

Timing belt was the only thing that changed between quiet and knocking

Hi barr,

Get them to recheck the timing belt tension and also torque of the cam and crank pullies just to ensure they are correct.
