1988 Honda Civic

I'm looking to purchase a car, but I require further knowledge about certain problems concerned with a 1988 Honda Civic Hatchback that I came across using Craigslist. The owner of the vehicle states that he replaced the thermostat within the car and 2 days later the vehicle begin overheating. He has no idea what the problem is, but I would like to figure it out before I decide to purchase this car.

Before replacing the thermostat, the car never had overheating issues. The engine sounds good (before and after replacing thermostat)

It sounds like he did not bleed the coolant properly if the vehicle has no past overheating problems.
