I have an '86 civic, for a while now when i start it, it will die immediately when i let off the gas. If i drive it for 5 or 10 minutes it will idle ok. Today, I started to drive it home and it lost power. the car died, the lights and radio still work but it won't start, not even with a jump. Just wondering if it may be the starter or alternator or what?

Hi zmac1986,

If the stater cannot crank even with the aid of a jumper, it should either be the starter motor or ignition switch.

Attach a remote wire to starter solenoid to test, if it works, the ignition switch is bad.

If it does not work, try banging at the starter and if it works, the starter is due for replacement.
