I recently bought a used 84 Honda Civic to use for estimating jobs all over the valley. Gas mileage has been 35 mpg compared to 7 mpg in my 05' F-150. The car has ran absolutely perfect with excellent gas mileage except the only problem was that the A/C didnt work so I purchased a R-12 to R134a conversion and refrigerant replacement kit. I watched the videos online and proceeded to do this project myself. My son controlled the refrigerant can and I started the car and turned the A/C on just as instructed. The engine went from its usual idle of 1250 rpm to 3500 rpm immediately. I had to keep it going so I could get the refrigerant to go in but I quickly tried shutting it off and than back on and it went right back to 3500 rpm. After just about a can and a third the air was extremely ice cold so I stopped the refrigerant install. When I took it for a test drive it continued to do the same thing. Although it was in drive it had dropped to about 2500 to 2750 rpm and when the brake was released it took off like a puppy on a leash. Put it in park and it went right back up to 3500 rpm. Shut off the A/C switch and the idle dropped to its normal 1250. When you push in the A/C button and the fan is off the idle is still low at 1250 but the blue light on the A/C switch does not come on until the fan is turned on. The idle goes straight to 3500 whether you put the fan in position 1,2,3, or 4. It doesnt gradually get higher as you turn up the fan.
Hope I have described this good enough for you guys and someone may be able to help me resolve this problem.
Thank You in Advance
