1984 Honda Civic engine stalling out

My car keeps cuting off every time I let off the gas ive tryied to turn screws on carburater but doesnt seem to help much, changed plugs, wires, the only thing that I know of is changing the points, doesnt seem to have the power to go sometimes & smell gas alot real strong, any ideas of what I might can do?

First, what screws are you adjusting? Have you adjusted curb idle? Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Have you checked the catylatic converter to make sure it isn't plugged? Also, has the check engine light come on and have you checked timing? Also, did you replace the distributor cap and rotor? As far as points, your car doesn't have them. I think they stopped using them early 70's.
