Model is a 2000. ABS light turns on for a few minutes intermittently and goes away. Took car to honda dealership to do a diagnostic for $93. Guy comes back to tell me that the ABS box needs to be replaced and also one of the sensors...both parts including labor would be $640!

Is this something that I need to fix or can i live without it and keep my $640 for something else?

I got paranoid cuz the guy seemed like a shady salesman so then I called up another Honda dealership on the phone...guy quoted me $365 for the ABS box and sensor including labor but they would need to do another diagnostic test to make sure that's what I need done for another $63...but he said maybe I dont have to replace the whole box...that's why they need to do a diagnostic test themselves.

HELP! Have any of you experience this or had similar issues?

Thanks!

Be this right or wrong, I live in the north where winter is a nasty thing. I have big Ford truck that has ABS. The ABS went out and I am driving it without the ABS. In the winter I like it better. The noise of the ABS on icy stops and the foot pedal plunge is terrible. I know my 2000 Accord is much the same in the winter. I have opted on the truck to just use the normal breaking. But the call is yours. I might add however, that I would do some phone work and find a none Honda dealership mechanic that works on Hondas. They are usually harder to find but a good one will usually give you a good price and an honest answer on the parts to replace.
