Engine occasional thump as if I had just hit a ditch

Accord 2002 Coupe EX V6. 65K miles. Automatic transmission.
Lately my engine has been occasionally making a thumping sound and very slight jolt. About half the time it does it when I have just braked (normal braking, not rapid or hard braking) but the other half of the time I can't seem to determine what has caused the noise and jolt. It feels and sounds just like I have hit a small pot hole in the round. In fact the first couple of times I felt/heard the engine doing this I was surprised because I could have sworn I didn't see a pothole or ditch in the road. It happened a few more times before I realized it had nothing to do with the road and was an issue with my engine. Any ideas as to what this could be? By the way, I took my car in for the 60K maintenance at about 58K (Honda's suggested care for my car, which is still under warranty) and have always been faithful to get my car oil and maintenance schedule service.
Thank you!

Does it only happen when it is moving or have you felt it and heard it when still? I really question whether it is the engine or something drive related.

It only happens when I am driving, or rather, when the car is on. I have heard it after I have braked for a light and am idling. When it happens during those times it seems to occur several seconds after I braked and made the complete stop. Seems like I hear/feel it more often when the car is actually in motion. Obviously I don't know that much about cars so the best I can describe the relatively faint noise and associated jolt is as if I have just hit a ditch. Perhaps it may be more accurately described as a "catch" in the engine area.

When this happens at idle does it disrupt the engine idle speed (RPM) therefore I am trying to determine if it is trans or engine related.

Haven't noticing disrupting the RPMs at idle because it happens without warning and it happens so momentarily. I will, however, be on alert to see what, if anything, happens to the RPMs when it does the "catch" or jolt. Yesterday, I did notice that after I braked rather quickly and it was a hard brake, the engine (or something around the engine) did the same thing. It didn't do it at the beginning of the brake but more towards the very end of the brake and after I was easing off the brake. Still, I have noticed the thump happening when I had not braked.

I think this is a tranmission problem. I am having the same problem with my 2002 accord. The rpms are not affected during the thump. I think its the transmission down shifting with a delay. Something is getting stuck. Maybe a solinoid. My mechanic still can't figure it out. It only happens if the car goes past first gear and then back down to a stop. If you stay in first gear then you get no delayed thump. I'm hopeing this problem could be fixed by a solinoid change rather than a 1400 trans change out. Thanx

Are either of your vehicles covered in the class action suit being brought against Honda for transmission problems?

As far as I know, that class action suit only covers mileage (the suits claim that the mileage was overstated). Honda has denied any wrongdoing but has agreed to increase warranty coverage by 5% if you bought your car between the years of 2002 and, I believe, 2007. If you leased your car through Honda there are also specific measures that Honda is offering leasees. I did get my car in 2002 so my car is covered under the additional warranty coverage. Is there another class action suit involving transmissions that I am not aware of?

Two of the three engine mounts were cracked and were replaced. This solved the problem.
