Windshield wipers not working

Four cylinder two wheel drive automatic 83.000 miles

When the temperature outside drops below freezing the windshield wipers will not work. Most of the time after the car heats up and I have driven several miles they will start to work. Today it was below freezing and I drove over one hundred miles and they would not work at all.

Hi timothy88,

This is a peculiar problem and the only logical eplanation I can think of is that there is a loose/bad connector somewhere resulting in interruption of power supply.

You would need to test the relay control module to see if it is working correctly.

Thanks for your reply. I am going to have the relay tested. Could it be a fuse now that they quit working all together?

Sorry, now that you mentioned it, I might have jumped the gun as I was going in the direction of the wiper working intermittently.

Yes, it is possible a fuse has blown or it could be the motor has decided to call it quits, but I would say not likely as the year of the vehicle is rather new. Wiper motors are very durable and most would last the lifetime of the vehicle.

If none of the mode works, you should check the fuse first.

Under hood
No 41 (100A), No 42 (50A)

Driverside under dash
No 7 (7.5A), No 9 (7.5A), No 12 (30A)

the wipers stopped working and i would like to know a few reasons why that might happen. i would also like to know which fuse controls that function?

Wipers quit working. Checked fuse - it was ok. tried the washer/wiper - washer sprayed windshield, but wipers did not wipe.

What next?

Check to see if the wiper motor is recieving it's proper signal. If it is, replace the motor.

The wipers do not home and in the intermitten mode, they do not go far enough to the left to cover the windshield and also in low mode. In high mode they travel all the way over to the left.

Sounds like you may have a faulty wiper motor or multi-function switch. Time to bust out the wiring schematic and to make sure the motor is receiving the proper signal, if so the fault is the motor.

We bought this car used with 13,000 mil. on it, don't have a schematic on it. The one car I didn't buy the manual for. But I'm thinking the same thing, faulty motor, but I was just wondering if it had a pc board attached to the motor that controls the different functions. Guess I'll just have to tear into it to find out. Thanks.
