Hello again,

Yes, that it correct. You will have 1 o-ring to use with the actual thermostat and a separate 2nd o-ring to mount the thermostat housing to the EGR valve side. Hope this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.

Hello again.

Glad to help. When you ask begin to ask about other components that are not related then we have to ask you to start a new question. This is in reference to you mentioning the balancer. Be sure to again include all your vehicle information. Here is the link:

2001 Honda Accord mileage: 55,000. I need to replace the thermostat and I want to know the difference between them. You can purchase 170 degree, 180 degree, and 192-degree thermostats. What is the difference between these, and which one is the best for my car. I drive my car only in the summer months.

The difference in the thermostats is the temperature at which they open allowing coolant to flow into the radiator. We would suggest installing a 192° thermostat because that is the original factory specification. This is necessary for all of your computer engine management systems to work properly.

Hi Larryyon,

Thermostat is located in housing at left of engine. It is connected by the lower radiator hose.

Hi Larry,

Yes, replacement is rather easy but after replacement, you must bleed the system of air locks.

Disconnect battery negative terminal.
Drain coolant from radiator by releasing the drain plug below the radiator.
Use plier to pull the lower radiator hose clamp on thermostat housing away from locked position.
Twist the hose gently and when it becomes loose, pull it out of housing.
Remove the bolt holding the ground wires. When installing, ensure this ground is secured well, failing which you would not be able to start vehicle.
Remove 2 bolts holding the thermostat housing.
Tap the housing gently and it will come off easily.
Remove the thermostat.

When installing, note the seating position of the gasket and thermostat.

After installation, loosen bleeder nut 2 - 3 turns on thermostat housing.
Turn on heater and set to maximum heat.
Fill coolant at radiator filler neck till no bubbles come out of the bleeder nut.
Tighten bleeder nut.
Fill coolant till radiator is full.
Start engine and when filler neck coolant level drops, top up with coolant.
Continue doing so till the level does not drop.

Once coolant level stabilises, and engine has heated up, close radiator cap.

Run engine and remember to check reservoir coolant level.

Wait for engine to cool down befor erechecking coolant level.
Top up if necessary.
Done.

Recently my car has been over heating after just going short distances. Yesterday I flushed out the radiator and add new coolant in the car. Today I was Coming home for work(about 2miles) so the car really didnt even have time to heat up. But the was reading that it was overheating. I didnt notice any leaks when I add new coolant or when I whent to my car this morning. Could this be the thermostat if so is it a easy fix? If so were is it located for I can change it myself. I learning to repair my own car to save money.

Yes the thermostat could be stuck. To find it. Follow the hose comming off of the upper radiator to the engine, where it stops that is the thermostat housing. You have to go inside there to remove it. If that doesnt work. Your engine coolant temperature sensor is your next step. That is: Under hood, center, upper engine area, passenger side of engine block, mounted near distributor. And make sure that you bleed the system.
