Hi LOANIO,

Check the coolant level in the radiator, if it is low, it would result in overheating when vehicle is moving slowly or stopped.

Check if the cooling fans are turning on. If they don't, the radiator is not being cooled when vehicle is stationary or moving slowly.

When I stop and let my car idle on hot days with the A/C on the RPM's will jump up to 1600 and the car will start to overheat. I tried to tap the throttle to get the RPM's down but it had the opposite effect, the RPM's went up over 2400. Of course with the RPM's that high I am not able to shift the car into drive and have to shut the vehicle down to cool off. The time that I didn't tap the throttle I was able to shift the vehicle into drive and the vehicle cooled off going down the highway. The antifreeze level is fine and there are no problems during any other operation.

Is the cooling fan coming on when you are over-heating?

Also, the high idle is most likely caused by a dirty or faulty IACV (idle air control valve) You can try servicing it (cleaning it) first before replacing it.

Hi there,

check that the thermostat is working, the pressure cap is holding correct pressure, there are no external coolant leaks and the radiator is not part blocked.
