I take my car to a local dealership for all my maintenance and repairs. At my last appointment they suggested I have my timing belt and water pump replaced. After checking my owners' manual I discovered that Honda suggests replacement of the timing belt only at 105,000 miles or 7 years, whichever comes first. Further internet research is just confusing me. Some sites say to change both the timing belt and the water pump, others say to only replace the timing belt. It is a costly repair so I want to do the right thing. Any suggestions?

The reason you change the water pump with the belt is because the water pump at 100,000mi, is:

a)already leaking and needs to be replaced
b)is about to leak, and since you have the pump exposed anyways, it's common sense to replace it then and there.

I would replace both.
