The Honda dealership is recommending that we change the timing belt even though the mileage is way below the recommended 90,000. We bought the car (new) in November 2001 and per the dealer the timing belt should be changed at 7 years or 90,000.

Is that correct? if we do need to replace, what should be the ball park cost?

Thanks

Hi mj202,

The recommendation is correct but if the vehicle is being used often and not under extreme conditions, the belt might be able to last for a while more. If you wish to do so, at least get the belt condition inspected.

Parts should cost between $200 and $400 depending on other factors such as valve cover gaskets, balancer belts etc. Labor time is 3.6 hours and an additional .5 hour if the seals are replaced.
