2002 Honda Accord EX, 4 cyl, Automatic

After 24 years of marriage I now find myself single and responsible for a whole host of things I have never had to deal with in my life. I never even had to pump gas before my divorce, let alone have to try to figure out how to take care of the entire car. That's a too much information just to lay some groundwork for you to know what kind of novice you are dealing with in me. I have the oil changed at regular intervals but, other than that, I have no idea what may need to be done to this car. I did not purchase it new so do not know what has been done up to the last year or so. Someone said I definitely need to have the timing belt replaced because of the high mileage and someone else said I should probably have the water pump replaced and probably struts. This all sounds Greek (not to mention incredibly expensive). I should mention these people who gave me this advise are not mechanics and have not looked at my car. Please help. The car seems to be running fine. I typically run high grade fuel but with the recent gas prices alternated fill-ups with 87 and 93 octane. What should I REALLY be doing to get as much life and performance out of my car? Also, how do I know if I am being quoted a fair price for repairs? I honestly would not have a clue if someone were trying to take advantage of my naivete. Thank you so very much for your time. I am very happy to have found your site and plan to pass the link along to a few of my friends. Have a great day!

Ok first off you do not need to use 93 octane fuel your car was built to run on 87 octane so any more is really a waste of money. Next you need to find a shop you trust and have them do a 90,000 mile check which should include the following:
Check and adust belts check cooling system and all the hoses and clamps check the suspension and steering compenants check exhaust system check all fuid levels and check brakes and check and replace any needed filters and rotate tires.
Now as for your timing belt that should be done soon. Now as for cost the check up should cost you about 200 dollars as for the timing belt will be about 270 dollars. Hope this is what you were looking for. THanks
