Upon braking, the car starts to sputter as if it will stall (it hasn't stalled yet). It only happens occasionally and just started at the 125,000 mile mark. I don't know that I could replicate it for a mechanic. Should I replace the fuel filter? Should I just take it to the mechanic?

The check engine light is not on.

Hi kddoyle33,

This is something that requires further diagnostics and professional advice is the best option.

If the idling speed is too low, the symptoms described would occur. Cleaning the throttle body and Idle Air Control valve might resolve the problem.
