I recently had my check engine light come on. The car starts fine, idles like normal right at or just below 1000 rpms. When driving and the rpms reach 3000 rpms in all gears the engine starts to buck like there is a limiter on the rpms that the car cannot go over. Gas mileage has not seemed to change. Spark plugs are fine. Could it be the wire harness for the plugs or distributor cap? Could it be the vtec since I belive it kicks in around that rpm. Thank you for any ideas.

Hello, I'm Danny.

Unfortunately there is a multitude of causes that can have your vehicle poorly. We need to get behind the reason the check engine light came on first. Here is a tutorial showing how to perform a CAN- Controller Area Network scan:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/can-scan-controller-area-network-easy

Performing this type of scan will not only check all systems like the check engine light fault codes you mentioned but all other systems on your vehicle as well. Once you perform this scan get back to us with any and all fault codes and we can then properly diagnose the issues causing your car to run poorly. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.
