2001 Honda Accord timing belt, balance belt replacement

In the past I have replaced the timing belt & water pump on 4 cyl hondas, but this is the first one with balance shafts. What do these shafts do, etc.?

Hi lewis,

These balancer shafts are for reducing engine vibration during high rpms. Wrong matching of these 2 shafts would result in excessive vibrations (felt as resonance noise at times) especially at rpm of more than 3,000.
