Remove the nut on the lower balljoint, that will allow your hub assembly to swing away from your lower control arm and make putting the axle in a breeze

DONE THAT, HOWEVER IT APPEARS THAT THE SPRING HAS EXPANDED AND NOW CANNOT FIT THE SPING AS IT HAS EXPANDED

Its an entire strut assembly in that vehicle. It can only expand so far. You said you couldnt get the axle to clear? If you put a prybar on the lower control arm, and seperate the lower balljoint from the hub assembly, there is more than enough room. If not, turn the steering wheel one direction to allow even more room. What other problems are you having?
