2000 honda accord coupe, v6. The main brake lights wont work, but the window brake light works fine. I have checked the fuse, the bulbs, the brake light sensor on the pedal and the connections to the lights appear to be ok, I am a novice at car repair, I dont know how to check the individual wires for current. Is there anything else I should look at before going to the mechanic?

That is probably a bad brake light failure sensor module. It's the only component isolated to those lights only.
Also check fuse #9 (7.5amp) that powers this module.

Checked number 9 fuse, still in tact. Should I just buy a new failure sensor module and try to install it myself? It looks as if the turn signal lights are being ran through this module and are working fine. Does that matter?

Nothing should ever be changed on a guess. Everything should be verified first.

I can verify that its not the bulbs, fuses, or brake sensor on the pedal and the turn signals and window mounted brake lights all work. It must be the wiring or the failure sensor right?

No, that's not how confirmation is made. You have to uses a testlight and verify that the signal is arriving at that module but not leaving. You do this by reading and following a wiring schematic.
