2000 Honda Accord EGR Valve repair

2000 HONDA ACCORD

Check engine light came on and the scanner indicated low flow in the EGR. Replaced the unit and resetted the check engine light. Light came back the next day.

Do you have a detailed instructions on how to repair and clean out the valves? If not, what should I do?

Hi dkrazydingo,

Sorry to say there are no known repair procedures for EGR valves.

You need to clear the passage below the EGR valve.
Try using a flexible but stiff wire to get the carbon deposits out.

Try this: Drill a small (1/16") hole in the top of the valve. Turn the drill bit with your hand so you don't overdo it. Spray in some contact cleaner. Activate the valve a few times (12 volts, + to bottom left pin, - to bottom right). Seal the hole. Retry it to ensure the resistance is changing as it should (1500 ohms to 4000 ohms). I did this and have gotten more than 30 drives so far. May be a temporary repair only-- who knows? Can be done without removing the valve from the engine. This is a repair for the case that the resistance measurement is initially not conforming to the values I have given (measure from pin 1 to pin 2 /upper left to upper middle contact)

The EGR has been replaced so DO NOT drill it. It will damage it. Remove it and clear the passage below it of clogging would be the best option.
