1999 Honda Accord 4 cyl Automatic 179000 miles

MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD EX STARTED TICKING THIS AFTERNOON. COULDNT TELL WHERE IT WAS COMMING FROM. AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 20 MILES AT NIGHT ON THE HIWAY. I PULL IN MY DRIVEWAY AND THE CAR IS SMOKING FROM THE HOOD. WELL I GUESS ITS STEAM. WHEN YOU CRANK THE CAR NOW IT SOUNDS HORRIBLE. WHAT IN THE WORLD COULD BE WRONG. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Hi MISS JAMIE,

Check the coolant level. If there are no coolant in radiator, you could have overheated the engine causing the ticking noise.

If you had damaged the head gasket, the engine would be running badly.

Th eother possible cause for the ticking would be bad con-rod bearings. Check the engine oil level.
