Our mechanic says struts need to be replaced and is quoting $600 for the job. No indication by car that there is a problem, but it was identified at the last check up. Does the need and price seem reasonable?

Thanks!

That seems to be like a reasonable price for strut replacement. If it is to replace all four struts thats actually quite cheap. Did he give you reason why they needed to be replaced?
